I’m really proud of everything I wrote this semester. I put a lot of time into creating my drafts and editing and I think it shows in my final drafts. The essay I am most proud of is my one on rhetorical analysis. I was already good at writing creative essays like for the personal narratives but I had always struggled writing things that needed data, explanations, and a thesis. In high school, research essays and ones with analysis on books my class read were the worst part and that is what I thought writing this essay for college would be like. To my surprise, the short story we read was really engaging and the directions and expectations for the essay were very clear so it was not as difficult for me to write. My rhetorical analysis essay actually had a clear thesis and data with explanations that made sense which I had struggled with in my previous English classes. What I most enjoyed doing was without a doubt the podcasts. It did not turn out perfect, some of our ideas were a little redundant and there were some misspellings in the transcript, but I ended up really liking my group members. We made a lot of jokes in between recording and it was more engaging than sitting in my room and typing an essay. If there was one thing I wish I had done better on, it would be my blog posts. I was bad about checking when they were due so I am missing a couple of them. Going back and reading some of them my thoughts were not very organized in the posts. I think it is because in my mind the blogs felt more like busy work and I just wanted to rush through and finish them. My writing technique has improved over the course of this semester and a lot of it has to do with finding and creating my own way that I like to write. I find it very helpful not just creating a rough draft and a final but having my papers go through two rough drafts creates a better product. I like being able to pier edit because it gives me ideas for what I want to put in my paper and it gives me an idea of what I should watch out for when editing my own. For example, when I was reading a guys essay I heavily edited his thesis because it was all over the place and it made me more confident when I tried to write my own thesis. While I like editing other peoples I have never really found any feedback from people in my class helpful. Lastly, I think one on one time with the teacher reading your essay and getting feedback helps me stay on topic and puts my paper in the write direction. An example of this would be my data for the first draft of the rhetorical analysis essay did not even include anything about ethos, pathos and logos but after my conference I got a better idea of how to incorporate that in my essay.
